What are vitamins?

Vitamins are nutrients your body needs which can only be obtained from the food you eat. The only vitamins that your body can make are vitamin D (with the help of sunlight) and vitamin K (produced by the bacteria in your intestines)

When your diet lacks any of the vitamin in this vitamin list, you experience deficiency symptoms. Diseases like beri beri (caused by a lack of vitamin B), scurvy (caused by a lack of vitamin C) are all vitamin deficiency diseases.

The only cure for such vitamin deficiency diseases is to eat foods that contain those vitamins that you lack. Alternatively, you could take vitamin supplements to make up for the lack of these vitamins in your diet.
